Home Buyer Education

All first-time home buyers seeking NHR’s Home Ownership Opportunity program financial assistance must agree to complete Home Buyer Education. A Certificate of Completion must be provided at least two weeks prior to closing the home purchase and the disbursement of NHR’s second mortgage loan funds. You must take a homebuyer education course provided by a pre-approved homebuyer education provider either in a classroom setting or through an on-line class. Homebuyer education must be conducted by HUD-approved or a Nebraska REACH-approved housing counseling agency (Readiness, Education, Awareness Collaborative for Homebuyers).  A small fee is charged for the home buyer education course.

Below are the links to the Home Buyer education providers.

NHR’s eHomeAmerica is a self-paced web-based class available anytime.
NeighborWorks Lincoln’s Home Buyer Education course spans two weeks and is typically held at their 2530 Q Street education center from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings for a total of 10 classroom hours. To take the course additional requirements maybe requested by NeighborWorks Lincoln.  It is suggested you contact either NHR or NeighborWorks before signing-up through their website.
REACH affiliates are state-wide and organized by the Nebraska Housing Developers Association.
